LINDY BY THE SEA
Opening our doors in 1998, "Lindy By The Sea" boasts the biggest and longest running Swing Dance and Lindy Hop program in Los Angeles. For the past 27 years, our goal has been to nurture a kind, fun, welcoming, and skilled community of swing dancers.
NO PARTNER NEEDED!
We rotate, so you'll have plenty of people to dance with!
WHO TAKES YOUR CLASSES?
Well, it seems like just about everyone. We have all ages (though mostly adults) and all backgrounds. Everyone seems to come for the same reasons... to have fun, to learn something new, to meet new people, to get exercise, and to forget their troubles.
YOUR DANCE TEACHERS Ron Campbell: Ron is an award-winning dancer, instructor, performer, and runs Lindy By The Sea. Rusty Frank: Rusty is a world-renowned instructor, dancer, performer, and Lindy By The Sea founder. Ted Stanley: Ted is also an award-winning dancer and instructor. Together they have over 55 years of teaching experience. Wow!

I'M NEW TO SWING DANCING. WHERE DO I START?
Our beginner courses are on Thursday. You should start with our "ABCs of Swing" Course at 7pm on Thursday nights. Check our "Start Dates" (using the TAB above) to see when the next Series starts.
WHAT IS A SERIES?
A Series is a 4-week period of time during which several Courses are offered.
WHAT IS A COURSE?
A Course consists of 4 Lessons/Classes (one each week during a Series) on a single topic.
Example: Our Beginner "ABCs of Swing" Course at 7pm on Thursdays starting Jan 9th.
WHAT COURSES ARE OFFERED IN THE NEXT SERIES?
Our current / upcoming courses are listed above. Click on the green "Next Series" TAB above for more information on what we have in store.
WHAT DO WE TEACH?
We have a wonderful curriculum that will take you from an absolute beginner on up to a seasoned swing dancer. Read all about it HERE .
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEN PARTS A, B & C IN THE THURSDAY NIGHT COURSES? DOES IT MATTER WHICH ONE I START WITH?
We want our students to develop a really solid foundation, so our "ABCs of Swing" and "ABCs of Lindy Hop" curriculum is designed to span 3 Series (Parts "A", "B" & "C".) These "A", "B" & "C" Series reinforce the same fundamentals while also teaching completely new material in each course. It DOES NOT MATTER which Series ("A", "B" or "C") you start with in learning your ABCs.
MAY I TAKE MORE THAN ONE COURSE AT A TIME?
Yes! As a matter of fact, you get a BIG discount on additional Courses taken in the same Series. Most people, who are absolute beginners, just start with the "ABCs of Swing". Then, the next series, they take the next part of the "ABCs of Swing" and add on the "ABCs of Lindy Hop".
CAN I JUST DROP IN?
In town for just a week or two? Want to try us out before getting a Series Pass? Yes, you can definitely drop in, but we do ask that you don't drop in for the 3rd or 4th weeks of a beginner "ABCs" class unless it is just a refresher for you.
DO I HAVE TO WEAR A MASK? Our Mask Etiquette: Bring a mask to all of our classes and dances and keep it with you. Before dancing with someone who chooses to wear a mask, please put yours on... Our motto: "Don't ask! Wear your mask!"
GROUP DANCE CLASSES
Lindy By The Sea group classes include: East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop, as well as featured classes in Balboa, Collegiate Shag, 1920s Charleston, Performance, Strolls, and more. MORE COLLEGIATE SHAG
TUESDAYS
8pm - 9pm
* All Levels Welcome! *
Collegiate Shag (or "Shag") is a partner swing dance that originated in the 1920s. As a "satellite" dance to the Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag was immensely popular in the decades that followed and is still a favorite of swing dancers today all over the world. Whether for dancing to faster tempos or just spicing up your Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag is a wonderful and FUN addition to your dancer's play-book. Be sure to add More Collegiate Shag at 8pm on Tuesday nights to your Series Pass.
* You do NOT need to have taken Collegiate Shag last series to take this class. *
THE MASTER TRACK
TUESDAYS
9pm - 10pm
This eight-week course, developed by Ron Campbell and Rusty Frank, is designed for students* who want to bring their dancing to the next level. Each week features a unique set of exercises we've designed to help unlock your use of musicality, connection, and styling in your dancing. The motto of The Master Track is just as the song says... "'Tain't what you do, it's the way that you do it." Class size is limited (and evenly divided between leaders and followers) so that students receive more focused attention. Students are filmed each week, and the footage is studied as a group (in Lindy By The Sea's traditional upbeat, encouraging, and friendly environment) to examine individual goals, progress, and areas of improvement. Enrollment is by invitation. If you're interested in The Master Track, please contact us at Classes@LindyByTheSea.com.
Please note: Pricing and enrollment in The Master Track is separate from our regular Series Passes.
* Students should be well versed in our Beginning "ABCs of Swing" and "ABCs of Lindy Hop" curriculum and at have taken at least half of our Intermediate Lindy Hop "The Track" courses or have social dancing equivalent.
We can't wait to welcome you to Lindy By The Sea!
